Shame on Bob Dole and all the rest of the Washington bureaucrats for misrepresenting Steve Forbes. Senator Dole misleads us by saying that the flat tax as proposed by Mr. Forbes would break the national budget and send us into greater debt. Senator Dole is conveniently neglecting to tell us that Mr. Forbes has stated that along with the flat tax, a great many programs would also be cut to keep the budget in balance.
Americans want smaller national government, greater local control and lower taxes while maintaining the services they enjoy today; unfortunately, this isn't possible.
If cuts aren't made now, the monetary crisis that will be felt starting around 2010 will make our problems now look like nothing.
America should stop worrying about how well Forbes will do under his plan and worry about how they will do under his plan. I laugh every time I hear the assertion that Forbes is proposing his flat tax to cut his own taxes. Why would someone spend upward of $25 million dollars to cut his taxes? It would take more than a 100 years to recoup.
American citizens should educate themselves and, come election time, tell Bob Dole and all the rest that they won't stand being misled or lied to.
