Republican presidential aspirant Steve Forbes challenged us to try his flat tax after we did our 1995 taxes, so I did. Even with all my deductions, including mortgage interest, property tax, charity deductions, my tax bill is $2,441. Then I did the flat-tax calculation. After deducting $26,000 for my wife and me and $15,000 for my three children, my tax bill would be zero.
Not only would I give up all deductions for the flat rate, I am now giving Steve Forbes my total support.
