GEORGE L. SMITH

George L. Smith, 75, of the 100 block of Whitehurst Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 1996, in a Chesapeake nursing home.

Mr. Smith was born in Warsaw, N.C. He was the son of the late Jonas and Mary Smith and the widower of Mary Frances Snead Smith. He was a retired chief petty officer with the U.S. Navy with 21 years of service and retired after 16 years of service with the U.S. Post Office. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Pressley Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church in Cross, S.C.

Survivors include one stepdaughter, Hazel Elaine Maculewich of Edenton, N.C.; one stepson, William Robert Hudgins Jr. of Chesapeake; one sister, Sue Hill of Largo, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The body is being sent from Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge to Avinger Funeral Home, Holly Hill, S.C., for a funeral service in Pressley Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church, Cross, S.C., with interment in the Eutawville Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials be made to the New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund, 3310 Indian River Road, Chesapeake, Va. 23325.
