Openings for pleasure craft of the drawbridge across the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway at Great Bridge in Chesapeake will be restricted further by changes in federal regulations.
The U.S. Coast Guard has said that effective Feb. 22, the bridge across the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River at mile 8.8 will not open on signal from 7 to 9 a.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, except on federal holidays.
The new rules extend the period of restricted openings during morning rush hours and eliminate a previously scheduled 5 p.m. opening for recreational vehicles.
