Marvin James Yoder, 60, of the 900 block of Crowley Circle, died Feb. 14, 1996, in a local hospital.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator at E.T. Gresham Co. for 29 years. He was a member of the Gateway Free Will Baptist Church of Virginia Beach, where he was an usher and was also a member of the Blue Grass Music Association. Mr. Yoder loved playing, writing and listening to gospel music. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl R. and Effie T. Yoder.
He is survived by his wife, Sally; and two sons, Marvin J. Yoder Jr. and his wife, Jodi, and Joseph E. Yoder of Chesapeake; two sisters, Aleverda Y. Weaver of Pennsylvania, and Dorothy C. Wenger of Chesapeake. He is also survived by four brothers, Mark A. Yoder of Ohio, Clark Yoder of Georgia, Mayare Yoder and Martin D. Yoder of Chesapeake; and a grandson, Jason Keith Yoder, also of Chesapeake.
Visitation will be held at the Gateway Free Will Baptist Church, 5473 Virginia Beach Blvd., from 7 to 9 p.m. today. The funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pastors Carl Sexton and Dale Burden are officiating. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
