The Rev. Charles Melvin Creecy Sr., 75, a lifelong native of Rich Square, died Feb. 11, 1996, in Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, N.C.
Creecy's career included the ministry, farming and helping others through various civic and humanitarian efforts. He also served three consecutive terms in the North Carolina State House of Representatives, representing the 5th Congressional District.
His survivors include his wife, Clementine Savage Creecy of the home; two sons, Charles M. Creecy Jr. and Bryant Dewitt Creecy of Rich Square; two daughters, Norma Rose Creecy Jones of Philadelphia and Elizabeth Ann Creecy of Murfreesboro, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, William S. Creecy Jr. of Rich Square and and Hollis F. Creecy Sr. of Sunbury, N.C.; two sisters, Myrtle Creecy Crockett of Raleigh, N.C., and Frazier Creecy Savage of Kelford, N.C.
A viewing will be held today from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Rich Square. The memorial service will commence at noon immediately following the Saturday viewing with the Rev. William C. Clark officiating. Interment will follow at First Baptist Church cemetery, Chapel Hill Road, Rich Square. Creecy-Creecy Funeral Home of Gatesville is in charge of the arrangements.
