Denver P. Tarkington Jr., 66, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 1996, at his home. He was a native of Suffolk.
He was the father of nine children, two preceded him in death, Cynthia A. and Michael L. Tarkington. Survivors include, Jerry P. Tarkington of Portsmouth, April L. Maples of Florida, Deborah F. Jernigan of Florida, Sara M. Gehle of Portsmouth, William W. Tarkington II of Norfolk, Lydia A. Tarkington of Ohio, Norma L. Cochran of Portsmouth; 23 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife, Marian Tarkington; mother, Lillian H. Tarkington; three sisters, Yvonne Matte, Virginia Seeman and Barbara Holmquist.
Services will be at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, N.C., today at 2 p.m.
