Martha Hopkins Carpenter, 77, of 235 Styons Road, died Thursday morning, Feb. 15, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
A native of Washington County, she was former secretary of the Council of Civic Organizations in Virginia Beach. She retired from the Naval Air Station Norfolk with 30 years of service.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by two daughters, Brenda C. Monty of Plymouth and Linda C. Pendergrass of Cicero, Ill.; two sisters, Dossie L. Hopkins and Myrtle H. Westmoreland, both of Statesville; a brother, Robert J. Hopkins of Statesville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of the Horner Walker Funeral Home, with Bob Moulden and the Rev. Lewis S. Styons Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Windley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, today from 7 to 9 p.m, and at other times, at the residence of Alan Monty at 235 Styons Road, Plymouth. Contributions may be made to the Plymouth Church of Christ or to the charity of one's choice.
