Dare County personnel director Shawn Murphy announced Thursday that he is resigning to become personnel director for the town of Kill Devil Hills.
Murphy, 34, was hired as a personnel officer for the county in 1984, after graduating the year before from Appalachian State University.
With his resignation effective March 16, Murphy said he'll spend the rest of his time with the county ``cleaning up loose ends.''
A Kill Devil Hills resident, Murphy said his resignation had no connection to a recent budget problem with basketball officials in the Dare Parks and Recreation Department.
``Absolutely not; it's not related to the Recreation Department at all,'' Murphy said.
As personnel director, Murphy earned $42,398 three years ago, the last time his salary was publicized.
``Shawn has been an outstanding county employee,'' county manager Terry Wheeler said. ``I'm sure that he will be successful in his new endeavor.'' by CNB
