Governor Allen's stance on school guidance-counselor regulations have long-term effects on children and families. Children who are unable to discuss their emotions with their parents will lose an excellent avenue of guidance at school if counseling requires parental permission. Parents now have the right to refuse nonacademic counseling for their children; isn't this power enough?
It has taken too many years to place counselors in elementary schools. We should not allow Governor Allen and the state Board of Education to take a significant step back in time and stunt the growth of our children's mental health and education.
