Regarding ``Why not one big Norfolk?'' (letter, Jan. 28): Dave Conlon stated that a consolidated government could have the best interests of the whole region at heart. I would like to point out just a few little reasons that I think it would not benefit the city of Chesapeake.
First, why should Chesapeake enter into a partnership with cities that have large school-system debts, overcrowded schools and limited water resources.
Second, I think the people of Chesapeake would look very poorly upon a city council that would repeatedly go against the will of the citizens in its quest for a more-profitable downtown area, i.e. the new mall as well as the financing of Nauticus. And let's not forget Harbor Park.
What about the people who lost their homes in Ocean View in the name of redevelopment?
No thanks. Do what you will with other cities, but leave the city of Chesapeake to its present council and citizens.
