Dennis Bernard Burgess, 91, died Friday, Feb. 16, 1996.
He had served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the mid-1920s, and retired as chief dispatcher for Carolina Trailways Bus Co. in Greensboro, N.C. He was a master mason with the Greensboro Masonic Lodge (NU)76, A.F. and A.M.
Mr. Burgess was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Council Burgess. Survivors include his sons, Gerald Burgess of Blue Ridge and Dennis Burgess Jr. of Jacksonville, N.C.; a daughter, Patricia Eaheart of Rockville; a very special daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Burgess of Fayetteville, Ga.; sisters, Pauline Richardson and Mildred Purgasson, both of South Boston, Grace Hussey of Greensboro, N.C., Lessie Thanxton and Wilda Ivey, both of South Boston; brothers, John Burgess, Wilson Burgess and W.C. Burgess, all of South Boston; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Monday, Feb. 19, 1996, at 11 a.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Honorable Hal J. Bonney. Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 818 Norview Avenue, Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wesleymen of Epworth United Methodist Church, Freemason and Boush St., Norfolk, Va. 23510.
