Three motorists died in separate accidents in Hampton Roads on Friday, including a woman driving in the freezing rain in Suffolk, police said.
Pamela A. Green, 33, of the 5700 block of Godwin Blvd. in Suffolk was killed in the 4100 block of Godwin Blvd. near Reid's Ferry Bridge about 6:48 a.m.
Police said Green, a custodian at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, was driving south in freezing rain when her 1986 Chevrolet slid into the northbound lane and was struck by a 1978 Ford van.
The driver of the van, Primus Anderson of Hampton, was taken to Obici Hospital in Suffolk, where he was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
In an accident just before 6:30 a.m. on Interstate 64 at the Providence Road overpass, a 56-year-old Chesapeake man was killed after his car became disabled.
Witnesses told state police they saw Joseph Martin standing in the right westbound lane of the interstate after pulling his 1988 Hyundai off the road, a state police spokeswoman said.
Martin was then hit by a 1988 Ford van. He died at the scene.
State police said they will not release the name of the driver of the van. No charges have been filed.
Another accident occurred on Route 44 near Rosemont Road when a car, headed westbound, ran off the expressway and hit some trees.
Timothy R. Armstrong, 23, was thrown from the car and died at the scene. He was a seaman on the carrier John C. Stennis.
State police were originally called to the accident about 1:45 p.m. after motorists saw Armstrong's 1995 Honda near the trees and called 911.
A state police spokeswoman said troopers were not sure what time the car struck the trees, or how the accident happened. MEMO: Staff writer Susie Stoughton contributed to this report.
