Dr. George Nicholas Psimas, 76, of the 500 block of Dogwood Trail, died Feb. 17, 1996 in a Portsmouth hospital.
Dr. Psimas, a life-long resident of Portsmouth, was the founding partner of Portsmouth Orthopaedic Associates. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia and the Univeristy of Virginia Medical School, and served in the U.S. Army as a battalion-aid surgeon during World War II. He was a charter member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. Among his professional memberships he was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Medical Assoc., a Diplomate of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the Eastern Orthopaedic Association, Southern Orthopaedic Association, American Fracture Association, Pan Pacific Surgical Association, Medical Society of Virginia, and the Portsmouth Academy of Medicine.
Survivors include his wife Nancy G. Psimas; a daughter, Nancy Leigh Psimas of Portsmouth; three sons, George N. Psimas Jr. and his wife Julie of Virginia Beach, Robert E. Psimas and his wife Peggy of Chesapeake, Alan C. Psimas and his wife Elizabeth of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, George Nicholas Psimas III, Robert E. Psimas Jr., Kathryn H. Psimas, Ryan D. Psimas; and a brother, Dr. James N. Psimas of Chesapeake.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Jane F. Flaherty. Entombment will be in Meadowbrook Mausoleum, Suffolk. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling arrangements. Flowers are gratefully declined and contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 3300 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA. 23703.
