POSTAL JOBS NOT CUSHY

Russell Waterfield complains that U.S. Postal Service carriers sit in their cushy right-hand-drive jeeps so they can save themselves all ``those exhausting steps to and fro.'' He further complains that since his mailbox is on the street, he must get a ``shoe full of water'' on his 60-foot trip to collect his mail.

Most carriers walk between 5 and 15 miles per day. They are out in all sorts of inclement weather for hours at a time.

The carriers have no control over what goes in a mailbox. Junk mail must be delivered just like first-class mail.

Lastly, Mr. Waterfield complains that the post office won't give him the forwarding address of tenants who move out owing him rent. I'm glad that the post office abides by the Privacy Act and suggest that Mr. Waterfield be more careful who he rents to.

All things considered, the Postal Service does a fantastic job, moving billions of pieces of mail a year to every home and business in the United States. The Postal Service is to be commended.
