State police have released the name of a Hampton man who died Saturday night after his car skidded on a patch of ice and hit a tree on Interstate 64.
The accident occurred about 6:34 p.m. as William Alashi, 53, was approaching the eastbound on-ramp to the interstate at Oyster Point Road.
His car apparently hit a patch of ice, crashed into an embankment and became airborne, hitting a tree before landing upside down.
Alashi was not wearing a seatbelt, a state police spokeswoman said.
No one else was injured.
