MARCH 5 THE DEADLINE FOR CANDIDATES

Smithfield and Windsor citizens interested in running for election to their town governments have until 7 p.m. March 5, to file their intentions with the Isle of Wight County Registrar's Office.

Each town council will have three seats to be filled in the May 7 election, Registrar Ann Edwards says.

Coming to an end are the four-year terms of Smithfield Town Council members Helen G. Barrett, T. Carter Williams and Dr. A.C. Rogers. Rogers was the only council member to file for re-election as of The Citizen's press time Tuesday, Edwards said.

The three Windsor Town Council seats are held by Marvin Crocker, Ray Holland and H. Cecil Eley. Eley, who was appointed to the council in January after Bobby Claud was elected to the Isle of Wight County Board, is the only incumbent who has filed, Edwards said.
