JOSEPH W. BROWN

Mr. Joseph Wallace Brown expired at his residence on Feb. 9, 1996.

A native of Annapolis, Md., he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Irene P. Brown. He was a graduate of Stanton Elementary School in Annapolis; Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C.; Virginia State and New York universities. He also studied at the College of William and Mary. He earned a Bachelors of Science degree from Virginia State and Masters of Art degree from New York University. He served as book store manager and registrar at Virginia State. Mr. Brown retired from Norfolk State University after serving 38 years as registrar. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

He is survived by his sister, Hattie C. Young and brother-in-law, John Young of Annapolis; three great-nephews; two great-nieces; a devoted friend, Mary Barnes of Norfolk; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at Grace Episcopal Church, Feb. 24, 1996, at 11 a.m. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity will assemble at Hale Funeral Home, Feb. 22, 1996, at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to the Joseph W. Brown Scholarship Fund of Norfolk State University or Boy Scout Troop 70 of the Grace Episcopal Church. The family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. for the procession to the church Feb. 24, 1996. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
