ROBERT MCALPINE

Robert McAlpine, 50, died Feb. 19, 1996, at his home after a most courageous battle with cancer. Bobby fought his illness with courage, determination and humor, and he taught his family and friends to do the same.

Bobby was a lifelong resident of the Norfolk and Chesapeake area. He was a graduate of Norview High School, 1963, and Tidewater Community College. Due to his illness he had recently retired from Energy Technologies, where he was a partner. Bobby was proud to be a member in good standing and a past master, 1989, of the Charles T. Morton Masonic Lodge (NU)232, a member of Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies, and Khedive Temple of the Shrine. He was past captain, past chaplain, and was presently secretary of the Khedive Temple Mini Model-T unit.

Survivors include his wife and best friend, Mary Lou Carr McAlpine; a loving daughter, LouAnn McAlpine Schuyler; and ``Pawpaw's Buddy'' his grandson, Justin Schuyler; two brothers, James A. McAlpine Jr. of Virginia Beach and Kenneth ``Big Ed'' McAlpine and his wife, Shirley, of Norfolk; two sisters, Mary Frances Bergman and her husband, John, of Virginia Beach, and Carolyn Marie Kane of Virginia Beach; an aunt, Elsie Hall; special in-laws, Thomas Carr, Tom and Barbara Carr and Bill and Charlotte Carr; and special nieces and nephews. Bobby was predeceased by his parents, James and Frances McAlpine and a brother, Charles McAlpine.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk, by the Rev. Ross Wright and Rev. John Eidam. Masonic rites will be accorded at the grave. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel. Memorial donations may be made in Bobby's name to the Charles T. Morton (NU)232 Scholarship Fund, c/o Bill Oshman, Secretary, 140 East Bay Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23503. Rest in peace, Be-Bop. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
