ARGUMENT OVER CB RADIO TURNS DEADLY

An argument that apparently began on a citizens band radio ended violently Wednesday when two men confronted each other in a parking lot and one of them was shot and killed, police said.

Robert O. Wade, 34, of the 4500 block of Lookout Road in Virginia Beach was pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound, police spokesman Larry Hill said.

The shooting occurred about 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Little Creek East Shopping Center at the intersection of Shore Drive and East Little Creek Road. Several people driving vehicles equipped with CB radios had gathered in the parking area.

A suspect, who was arrested at the scene shortly after police arrived, was still being questioned late Wednesday and his name was not immediately released.

``Usually, there are some arguments over the CB radio,'' Hill said, ``but they seldom come to this.''

Wade, who identified himself on the CB radio by the name ``grave digger,'' was a construction worker. ILLUSTRATION: JOHN C. BELL
