Rev. James Douglas Roberts, 74, of the 200 block of Clearfield Ave., died Feb. 21, 1996.
He was a retired minister for Eastern Virginia Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church and he was also retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, as an instructor and shop planner in electronics. He was a native of Erie, Pa., and a member of Parkway Temple, Chesapeake. He had pastored several churches in Newport News and Hampton. He was a member of Toastmasters International Three Letter Club, former Governor of District 66 of Toastmasters International, member of the National Association of Parliamentarians, one of the Founders of the Golden Gavel Unit, and member of the National Story League. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Rudy B. Roberts; and brother, Keith G. Roberts of Huntsville, Ala.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. Ernest L. Trueblood in Parkway Temple, 601 Volvo Parkway, Chesapeake. Burial is in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Norfolk. The family will receive friends in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Virginia Beach, today from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Parkway Temple Missions Program, 601 Volvo Parkway, Chesapeake, Va. 23320.
