Mrs. Rosa Snoddy Wheeler, 91, of Route 1, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 21, 1996, at Cross Creek Health Care Center, Swan Quarter.
Born in Arvonia, Buckingham County, Va., Sept. 3, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Walter Fletcher and Alice Newton Snoddy. She was the widow of William Wayt Wheeler who died in 1971. A charter member of the Swan Quarter Extension Homemaker's Club, she was awarded the ``Mother of the Year'' award. She was an active church woman, having been one of the organizing members of the Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the Swan Quarter Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and member of the Woman's Missionary Union.
Surviving are three sons, William W. Wheeler and Walter F. ``Buddy'' Wheeler, both of Manteo, and Joseph Aubrey Wheeler of Swan Quarter; nine daughters, Mrs. Dorothy W. Cahoon of Manteo, Mrs. Mae W. Lupton of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mrs. Marjorie W. Alexander of Swannanoa, Mrs. Doris W. Jernigan of Norfolk, Mrs. Jean W. O'Neal, Mrs. Eleanor W. Swindell, Mrs. Evelyn W. Wise, Mrs. Joyce W. Carawan and Mrs. Marian W. Carawan, all of Route 1, Swan Quarter; 25 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Swan Quarter Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Wilson, Pastor and the Rev. C.L. Reynolds, former pastor, will officiate. Burial will be follow in the Epworth United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Sladesville Community. The family suggests that memorials be sent to Swan Quarter Baptist Church, c/o Barbara H. Watson, Route 1, Swan Quarter, N.C. 27885. The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sherlin Carawan, Route 1, Swan Quarter.
