William Henry Cornett Sr., 81, of 206 Central Ave., died Feb. 23, 1996, at Obici Hospital.
Mr. Cornett, a retired truck driver from the city of Suffolk, was a native of Dendron, Va. He was the son of the late A. Clarence and Alice Mae Walker Cornett.
Survivors include five daughters, Mary F. Johnson of Suffolk, Peggy A. Reed of Chesapeake, Joyce M. Phillips of Centertown, Ky., Patricia F. Johnson of Carrollton, Va., and Vickie L. Jones of Cromwell, Ky.; four sons, William H. Cornett Jr. and Jackie L. Cornett, both of Smithfield, Va., Cecil Cornett of Rescue, Va., and Jerry L. Cornett of Hartford, Ky. He is also survived by Frances L. Cornett; a sister, Lena Mae Hargrave of Carrollton; three brothers, James Cornett Sr. of Windsor, Robert Lee Cornett and Merl Cornett, both of Smithfield; 25 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a special friend and caregiver for 20 years, Virginia Saunders; her children, and grandchildren, all of Suffolk.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Dan Gray and the Rev. Bill Fulcher. Friends may join the family in the Hill Funeral Home on Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Artificial Kidney Center of Suffolk, Patient Education Fund, 1890 N. Main St., Suite G3, Suffolk, Va. 23434, attn: Carol Barbee. A family gathering will be announced after the service.
