Alvin John Hammer Sr., 70, of the 600 block of Edgevale Court, died Feb. 23, 1996.
Mr. Hammer, a native of Brookings, S.D., was a retired lab runner from Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Virginia Beach. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Elisia Hammer; three daughters, Beverly C. Kline of Chattanooga, Tenn., Sharon M. Hammer of Chelmsford, Mass., and Suzette A. Lynn of Half Moon Bay, Calif.; a son, Alvin J. Hammer Jr. of Virginia Beach; his stepmother, Lisa Hammer of Rapid City, S.D.; six sisters; five brothers; and nine grandchildren.
A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated today at 2 p.m. at Star of the Sea Catholic Church by Father William Sullivan. A graveside Rite of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. in Hampton National Cemetery, Phoebus Side, County Street, Hampton. Friends may join the family at 1097 Dumas Court, Virginia Beach, following today's service. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, is in charge.
