A broken jaw isn't keeping Portsmouth's Chris Honeycutt off the diamond at Christopher Newport.
Honeycutt was hit by a line drive but the jaw has been wired and he continues to play.
Honeycutt, a graduate of Manor, and David Mitchell, an Alliance grad, were selected as co-captains of the Christopher Newport team this year.
The two first were teammates when they started into T-Ball together on the Hawks in the Olive Branch Little League.
Former Churchland High basketball standout Amy Cross, now at Averett College, is another who has been battling injury problems in college.
She suffered a dislocated right shoulder in December. In her first game back as a starter she scored 17 points in an Averett victory over Wesleyan College. She had 13 points and 13 rebounds in a 70-64 loss to Christopher Newport.
Due to the development of shin splints, Cross bypassed the cross-country season. However, when a teammate was injured, she was asked to run in the conference championship meet. She finished in eighth place, helping Averett to a second-place finish.
