ATHLETIC CLUB'S TEAM WINS STATE TITLE PAC SQUAD WINS THE VIRGINIA OLYMPIC STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

THE PORTSMOUTH ATHLETIC Club amateur boxing team, after two years as runner-up, has won the Virginia State Team Championship.

The PAC squad won the title in the Virginia Olympic State Championships held in Norfolk.

PAC entered six boxers and all won medals, including three championships.

Al Lassiter, the super heavyweight gold medal winner from PAC, was named the outstanding boxer in the tournament.

Also claiming first-place finishes were bantamweight Norman Johnson and junior middleweight Kenny Head.

The victories qualify Lassiter, Johnson and Head for the East Coast Olympic Trials in Atlantic City March 3-9.

PAC's Rich Moore was the silver medal winner in the heavyweight division. Lightweight Andre Carter and welterweight Dom Minquzzi won bronze medals.

Most of these medal winners are expected to participate on the fight card at The Showcase Thursday.

A dozen three-round bouts are scheduled featuring boxers from clubs throughout the Virginia Association of the U.S. Boxing Association.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and boxing will start at 7:30. Food and beverages will be available.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.

For information about the card, call 488-2955 or 399-6608.
