Chauncey Jesse Brown Sr., 66, of the 700 block of Arvin Road, was born Oct. 21, 1929, in Perryville, Mo. He died Friday Feb. 23, 1996, in a local hospital.
He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Virginia Beach and Pythian Charity Lodge (NU)10. He was retired from Cox Communications and was an avid duckpin bowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Brown; and four brothers, Emil, Gus, Frank and Rod Brown. Survivors include his wife, Emily; two sons, Chauncey Jesse Jr. of Norfolk, Steven Harold of Richmond; two stepsons, Rev. Kenneth Cauthorne of Richmond and Ronald Cauthorne of Chesapeake; a sister, Rosemarie West of Richmond; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; as well as sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a brother-in-law.
The funeral will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, Providence Road, Virginia Beach on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Paul Kettner and Pastor Chris Otten officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Independence Christian Church Cemetery in Ashland, Va. Friends may call Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church Building Fund.
