CPO Don J. Patterson, USN (Ret.), 57, of the 1400 block of Hiteshew Place, died Feb. 24, 1996, in Virginia Beach General Hospital of injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident.
Mr. Patterson was born June 5, 1938, in Gloversville, N.Y., and was raised in Johnstown, N.Y. He was a Lutheran. Mr. Patterson was a veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from the Navy after 20 years of service. He had been a resident of Virginia Beach since 1970. He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association Branch 166.
He was the beloved husband of Patricia Y. Wessendorf Patterson; and beloved father of Melanie A. Patterson of Norfolk and Don J. Patterson Jr. of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by his mother, Ann M. Patterson of Gloversville, N.Y.; two sisters, Carol Porter of Rotterdam Junction, N.Y., and Susan Wilson of Northville, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Donald W. Patterson. Also surviving are some very dear friends, Andy and JoAnne Anderson, and Janie Akers of Virginia Beach.
A chapel service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel, by Pastor Mark Schroeder and the Rev. Jesse Lassiter. Burial will be in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery, Virginia Beach, with military honors. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 945, Virginia Beach, Va. 23451.
