John Joseph Ickes, 23, of the 1000 block of Sandy Narrows Court., died Feb. 25, 1996, in his residence.
He was a fast order cook and a native of Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. He was a graduate of the Job Corps in Pittsburgh, and received 750 hours of Culinary Arts, a certificate in math, and many trophies from his activities in football, baseball and basketball.
He is survived by his parents, Mary Ann Ickes and Raymond Newlin Ickes Sr., both of Virginia Beach; brother, Raymond Newlin Ickes Jr. of Virginia Beach; paternal grandparents, Charles Ickes of Irwin, Pa.; and his cherished golden retriever, Queenie.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. Bob Pittman in Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 N. Withchduck Road, Virginia Beach. Visitation will be conducted from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Kellum Funeral Home, Bonney Road Chapel.
