Georgie May Parker Melvin, 98, of the first block of Channing Ave., died Feb. 26, 1996, in Chesapeake.
She was a native of Portsmouth and the widow of Flavell Bryan Melvin Sr. She was the mother of the late Flavell Bryan Melvin Jr. Mrs. Melvin was a member of Cradock Baptist Church and a past president of the Euzelian Bible Class, member of the Order of Eastern Star Victory Chapter (NU)16, and member of Cradock Music Club and Woman's Club of Cradock.
Survivors include two daughters, Gertrude Rohrman and her husband, Paul, of Chesapeake, Mildred Griggs and her husband, Walter, of Portsmouth; two sons, George Thomas Melvin and his wife, Lorraine of Chesapeake, Rev. Bob Raymond Melvin and his wife, Carol, of Fredericksburg, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She will be missed by a host of friends and family, but her memory will live for all who knew her.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Cradock Baptist Church by Dr. David R. Denny of Cradock Baptist Church and Rev. Bob R. Melvin of Spotswood Baptist Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, where an Eastern Star service will be conducted at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cradock Baptist Church.
