SCOTTS CREEK MARINA PLANS PROGRESSING

Plans for developing the Scotts Creek Marina are ``alive and progressing'' after the City Council and the Industrial Development Authority met in an executive session on Tuesday, according to several council members.

While finances and final details for the marina have not been completed, the council members said they urged the Industrial Development Authority to continue working on the project during the closed-door session.

``The IDA was looking for some direction in shaping the project,'' said City Manager Ronald W. Massie. ``The council asked the authority to continue working with the developers on the project.''

Vice Mayor Johnny M. Clemons said he is in favor of the project and believes that it will ultimately win city approval.

``What else are you going to put out there?'' Clemons asked. ``This is the project the city wants. When you look at it with the whole area out there and in conjunction with the I.C. Norcom project, it's exactly what we want.''

``I've been watching and working on this for 11 years,'' Mayor Gloria O. Webb said. ``I think it's safe to say we definitely want the marina out there if we can work out the details with the developers.''

Councilman Cameron C. Pitts called it ``a good viable project, but I don't know how long it will take to finalize. The financing structures still aren't in place. Both sides are still negotiating. I'm comfortable with the way it's going. It looks good and there's been a lot of work done to it. I think it's exciting, and we need to go forward.'' by CNB
