PHILIP J. MCLARTY

Philip Jerome McLarty, 46, of the 3400 block of Petunia Cresent, died Feb. 27, 1996, in Norfolk.

He was currently employed as an associate business analyst with the PRC Corp. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after 23 years. He retired in June of 1991. He was a native of Fort Belvoir, Va. and was raised in Forest Park, Ga. He was a member of St. John's Baptist Church of Virginia Beach. He was past president of the PTA at Green Run Elementary School and had served two terms as treasurer, a member of the Green Run Elementary School Planning Council, member of the Board of the Green Run High School Band Parents Association. He was a deacon, choir member, worship leader, and member of the Master Plan Building Committee at St. John's Baptist Church. He was an auxiliary Virginia Beach Police officer.

He is survived by his wife, Mary J. McLarty; daughter, Megan A. McLarty of Virginia Beach; son, Jonathan D. McLarty of Virginia Beach; parents, J.D. and Elizabeth McLarty of Centre, Ala.; two brothers, James D. McLarty of Barnsville, Ga., and Terry L. McLarty of Snellville, Ga.; paternal grandmother, Leola McLarty of Tallapoosa, Ga.; and maternal grandfather, Frank Ray of Tallapoosa.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Hank Brooks in St. John's Baptist Church, 2356 Holland Road, Virginia Beach. Burial is in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be make to The McLarty Family Trust Fund, c/o St. John's Baptist Church, P.O. Box 6306, Virginia Beach, 23456.
