MAN SHOT IN ARGUMENT

Hours before his father's funeral on Wednesday, Jonah Junior Mizell shot a neighbor with whom he had been arguing, police said.

The shooting occurred about 11:45 a.m. in the 2300 block of Lake Cahoon Road in an area known as Mizell Town.

The victim, Rayfel Andre Knight, 21, was taken to Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, then transferred to Sentara Norfolk General. He was in stable condition Wednesday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The shooting apparently resulted from an earlier argument, said police spokesman Mike Simpkins. Just before the shooting, Knight was in his yard when Mizell went into his house and emerged with a shotgun. He fired three times, peppering Knight's back with pellets, Simpkins said.

Arrested at the scene were a juvenile, who was charged with disorderly conduct, and Anthony Troy Ruffin, 21, also of the 2300 block of Lake Cahoon Road, who was charged with possession of a concealed weapon, a 9mm handgun he bought Wednesday morning.

Police had not located Mizell, 35, by Wednesday night, though it was unclear whether he would be charged in the incident. An investigation is continuing.
