THE PAIN OF CUTBACKS

Regarding the Feb. 11 article on personnel cutbacks at Virginia Power: Unless we stop viewing our fellow man as just a number on a balance sheet, and begin to relate to the real pain people feel when their economic and emotional well-being are so violently and cold-heartedly disrupted, more incidents like that in Ft. Lauderdale, in which the fired municipal worker killed his former work-mates in revenge, will be sure to follow.

Let's start working together to stop management from running roughshod over lives in favor of some arbitrary ``bottom line!''
