IF YOU'VE EVER been to a Lakeland High School athletic event, you've been exposed to the contagious smile of 17-year-old ShaVon Hall. This senior captain of the varsity cheerleaders has plenty of spirit. She is president of the Future Business Leaders of America club (FBLA) and secretary of the Beta Club.
It's no surprise that ShaVon's motto is ``people should start taking control of their own lives and stop waiting for other people to do it.''
``Laziness will not get a person very far in life,'' she said.
This future chemical engineer is a math tutor for the SAT prep class and is an active member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Suffolk.
ShaVon, voted most intelligent and most likely to succeed by her senior class, views herself as a procrastinator but evidently she gets the job done.
My full, entire birth name: ShaVon Lynette Hall
I was born: July 17, 1978
Educationally speaking, I am . . . a student who has never missed the honor roll.
My school in three words: unique, friendly, fun
The killer day means . . . a test in physics, A.P. English, A.P. chemistry and having to cheer at a school two hours away.
Boy, I was pretty smart when . . . I won second place at the regional FBLA competition in business communications.
But I sure felt like an idiot after . . . my friends joke on me for saying something silly.
When I have a crazy midnight snack craving, I want . . . something real sweet and fattening, like pecan pie or anything chocolate.
My personal Oscars go to: ``Jason's Lyric''
The song of the century is: ``The Reason Why We Sing,'' by Curt Franklin
The grooviest musical artist is: Boyz II Men
When I don't have anything else to do, I'm . . . reading or talking on the phone.
Best date I've had: Going to the circus with my boyfriend and his family.
And the worst? None, I make the best of all situations.
If I could change one thing about me, I . . . would stop procrasti-nating.
I wish my parents . . . would buy me a 1996 red Mustang for gradua-tion.
The best place for mouth-watering chow is: Uno's
I love shopping at: Coliseum Mall
The ultimate night on the town would include: A nice movie, an elegant dinner and a quiet walk on the beach.
I make special arrangements to watch . . . ``Martin'' and ``Fresh Prince.''
In 10 years, I'd like to be . . . a chemical engineer with a master's degree and a happy newlywed.
If I could change one thing in America, I would . . . make people realize that violence is not the answer.
My heroes are: My mother, Brenda Hall, and my mentor, Charles Brown.
I am totally unique because: I'm young, gifted and black.
What makes you mad? Seeing my peers not living up to their potential.
If a film were made about your life, what would be the dramatic turning point? When I entered Lakeland High School.
Who would star in it? Me, because I'm interested in acting.
If I were a guest on a talk show, it would be: Montel Williams' show
My life summed up in four words: exciting, demanding, enjoyable and extraordinary. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
