Lonza C. Bass Jr.
VIRGINIA BEACH - Lonza Clarence Bass Jr., 71, died Feb. 27, 1996, in a Virginia Beach Hospital.
He was a retired teacher, sportsman and businessman. He was a native of Chesapeake and a member of Indiana Methodist Church. He was also a member of SAE Fraternity at William and Mary College, of which he was a graduate of the Class of 1950. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served under the command of General Omar Bradley.
He was the loving husband of Marian Kay Bass; and the beloved father of daughter, Robin Bass Jarvis of Norfolk; son, Christopher Bass of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Bass Gifford and her husband, Dick Gifford of Louisiana; two grandchildren, Sheridth S. Martin of Richmond, Gabriel I. Garnto of Leesburg, Fla. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alvin R. ``Buddy'' Bass as well as his parents, Lonza Clarence Bass Sr. and Margaret Anderson Bass.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. E. Clifton Whitlock. The eulogy will be said by Dr. Edward E. Brickell. Burial is in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The pallbearers will be Douglas Cherault, Vernie Bass Jr., Theodore Bacalis, John L. Smith, Josh Tunnell Jr. and Alan Poulter.
