VIRGINIA BEACH - Marian H. Wells, 66, of the 1000 block of Antioch Circle, died Feb. 26, 1996, in Sentara Leigh Hospital.
Mrs. Wells, the widow of William E. Wells, was a retired educator and a native of Chesapeake. She had been retired from the Chesapeake Public School System for five years after 38 years of service. She received her bachelor of science degree from Shaw University, Raleigh, N.C., and her master of science degree from Virginia State University. She was a member of Messiah Presbyterian Church, Norfolk; Presbyterian Women of Messiah Presbyterian Church; church organist and vacation Bible school organist, Evangelism Committee; chairperson of Women's Day Committee 1994; Christian Education Committee; Deacon Board Nurture Group. She was a charter member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Omicron Pi Omega Chapter; founder and president of the Chesapeake Chapter Pinochle Bugs Inc.; retired member of the National Education Association, in which she was a very active board member; a member of Virginia Education Association; The Virginia Science Teachers Quest; member of National Science Foundation and National Association of Science Teachers; Virginia Association of Science Teachers; Chesapeake Education Association; and named Who's Who In American Education.
Survivors include a stepson, Ellis Robert Wells of Miami, Fla.; a very devoted sister, Rebecca H. Wilson of Lago, Md.; a niece, Robin Renee Wilson of Lago; a host of cousins, among them Mr. and Mrs. James C. Lang of Richmond, Va., Mrs. and Mrs. Jasco Colley, Justin Colley, Felisha Colley, all of Virginia Beach, Linda Lang of South Carolina. She was predeceased by her daughter, Carla Rebecca Wells; and her parents, Claribell B. Hooker and Joseph F. Hooker.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Providence Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Ronald T. Evans. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be private. Family and friends will assemble at 1005 Antioch Circle, Virginia Beach, at 10:15 a.m. Saturday for the procession to the church. Pretlow's Funeral Home, Norfolk, is in charge. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
