LILLIAN W. CARTER

Lillian Winfree Carter, 86, of Poplar Hall Drive, died Feb. 28, 1996.

Mrs. Carter, the widow of John L. Carter, was a seamstress and a native of Norfolk. She was the daughter of the late William and Lillian Detmer Marshall. She was predeceased by her first husband of 35 years Otis Winfree. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and Pythian Sisters, Va. Dare Temple.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Norma Reynolds of Fayetteville, N.C., Nancy Monroe of Virginia Beach; two stepsons, Charles Carter of Savannah, Ga., John L. Carter Jr. of Virginia Beach; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Winfree of Virginia Beach; son-in-law, William Edwards of Norfolk; two sisters, Louise Sarlow and Blanche Petterson of Virginia Beach; a brother, Al Runaldue of Virginia Beach; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by two daughters, Jackie Hussey and Ann Edwards; and two sons, Alvin Winfree and Norman Winfree.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. Ernest Trueblood. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
