BEACH CITIZENS, WORK TOGETHER

I read the report from the Virginia Beach Grand Jury. This report clearly documents the chain of events, actions taken and participants in the financial meltdown of the Virginia Beach school system. The real losers are the citizens and children.

The incompetence, mismanagement and negligence detailed in the report are on a grand scale. Indeed, the actions and deeds of the former superintendent, the budget-development director and (I hope) soon-to-be former School Board members are appalling. Their combined actions are reminiscent of the bygone era of strong mayors, political deal-making, political job appointments and nepotism.

I hope the citizens of Virginia Beach will read the grand jury's report. The report should be published in the Virginia Beach Beacon and copies distributed to all schools, libraries and civic leagues. Then Beach citizens can work together to demand immediate implementation of the grand jury's recommendations.
