Mrs. Brandon M. Spalding, widow of Basil D. Spalding Jr., died March 1, 1996, in her home in Irvington, Va.
She is survived by two sons, Basil S. Spalding III and Carter B. Spalding; two grandchildren, C. Brandon Spalding Jr. and Julia Blair Spalding. Before moving to the Northern Neck, the Spaldings lived in Richmond. Mrs. Spalding was a communicant of St. James Episocopal Church where she taught an adult Sunday School class. She remained a member of the Women's Club in Richmond. In the Northern Neck she moved her membership to Grave Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild. She was a life member of the Historic Christ Church, Irvington, where she was one of the first docents. She was a member of the Colonial Dames of the United Stated in the Commonweath of Virginia-Rappahannock Committee. She was a member of the APVA, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, National Trust for Historic Preservation, member of the Virginia Museum, Richmond, Northern Neck Historical Society, Mary Ball Washington Museum and Library, and Friends of Stratford Hall.
Mrs. Spalding attended William and Mary College and Parson School of Fine and Applied Art, New York City. She served on the building committees for Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, Irvington, Va., and new Grace House and Bayne Center at Historic Christ Chruch. She was a member of Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club and the Princess Anne Country Club, Virginia Beach.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 4, in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Va., by the Rev. Hugh C. White III. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kilmarnock-Lancaster County Volunteer Rescue Squad, Kilmarnock, Va. 22482, or The Historic Christ Church Foundation, Irvington, Va. 22480.
