A recent event has inspired my faith in the mayor and city government in Norfolk. Around Christmas I used the City Hall parking lot, parked in the wrong place and received a parking ticket. Because the signs were unclear, I wrote the mayor asking for leniency. I received both a phone call and a letter stating that not only would my ticket be dismissed but that the unclear signs would be changed.
To those who distrust city government, I want to say that Norfolk has great potential. Having been born and raised in San Diego, I see many similarities between the two cities - the Navy, beaches, Waterside, tourism. I for one will welcome a mall downtown. San Diego has created a downtown mecca, and I look forward to a similar downtown rebirth in Norfolk.
I have great faith in Norfolk's leadership and vision. City leaders want to improve all of Norfolk, but it takes time and patience. The plan will work with the support of everyone.
