LETTERS TO THE EDITOR - SUFFOLK

Compare Rogers' words to deeds on council

In response to John Pruitt's Feb. 8 column, ``Sleepy Hole politics anything but sleepy:''

I am the originator of a June 23, 1993, letter to Council Member Marian ``Bea'' Rogers, and the person who obtained the 10 signatures on this letter. You state that some of those whose signatures are on this letter have now ``swung back to her side.''

It is a mystery why you state those who worked so hard to have her elected will not support her for re-election because of her ``yes'' vote for tax increment financing (TIF). Yes, there was a petition signed by ``a small but vocal clutch of voters,'' of 600-plus of her constituents, requesting that she not support TIF. This vote is only one of many reasons we are not supporting her in the May 7 election to represent the Sleepy Hole Borough.

It is obvious that you did not research your article, that your interest was in expressing your opinion rather than presenting facts. Take time to review her statements, published in your newspaper when she was seeking office, and compare them to her voting record. Yes, Council Member Rogers has only one vote, but all we asked was that she vote for the principles she told us she advocated. She did not keep her word or hold true to those principles.

This is the major problem we have with supporting Council Member Rogers for re-election, not TIF alone.

I have contacted all of those who signed the letter of June 1993, and nine of the 10 have signed again.

Suffolk Milteer: willing servant

I am writing this letter as a recommendation on behalf of Vice Mayor Curtis Milteer.

In working with Vice Mayor Milteer, I've found him to be very knowledgeable in his field of expertise. He has proven to be a very personable, kind and empathetic individual. He always appears cognizant of feelings, needs and situations which affect others.

He is understanding and accepting of others, regardless of race, culture or personal inclinations. I have also found Mr. Milteer to be very approachable, easy to talk with, and more than willing to offer his help and assistance to all who need it.

Suffolk No park restroom?

We all are in need of the exercise that walking brings, but that can be had at an area shopping mall. There, if you have a ``bladder'' need, facilities are available for that purpose. I feel certain that Byrd Park also has those facilities.

Many who have been arrested in our area have been forced to resign from lucrative jobs even before going to trial. Yes, Del. Robert Nelms, you, too, should resign.
