Vera Frances Spell Broadhurst, 81, of the 300 block of Sandpiper Drive, died March 2, 1996.
Mrs. Broadhurst, a native of Fitzgerald, Ga., was the widow of David Benjamin Broadhurst Jr. She was a retired second grade teacher at James Hurst Elementary School, and was active in the Retired Teachers Assoc. of the Portsmouth Education Assoc. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women and Old Dominion University, and was active in O.D.U.'s Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Lambda Sorority. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son, Michael B. Broadhurst of Portsmouth; a daughter, Sharon B. O'Connor of Martinez, Ga.; two sisters, Naomi Booker of Thomaston, Ga., and Roma Evans of Fitzgerald; a brother, John Spell of Watkinsville, Ga.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Furman, Krisha Roe, Tracy Ratliff and Bobby Kay; and two great grandchildren, Gabrielle Furman and Tanner Furman. She was predeceased by a son, David J. Broadhurst.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Walter Kennedy. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, and other times at 231 Idlewood Ave.
