A man who stepped in front of an approaching car was struck and killed early Saturday, police said.
The identity of the victim was being withheld until relatives could be notified.
Police said the accident happened about 12:15 a.m. as the man prepared to cross Jefferson Avenue just south of Briarfield Road. He was struck by a northbound 1987 Pontiac 6000 driven by Michael L. Toliver, 20, of the 1600 block of Terminal Ave.
No charges were filed against Toliver. Witnesses told police that the victim stepped in front of the car.
The man was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center, where he died in surgery about 2:50 a.m.
