ARCHITECTURE
Aubrey C. Brock was named partner of Shriver and Holland Associates in Norfolk. Brock joined the architectural firm in 1979 and became an associate in 1985 and a senior associate in 1995. He has also served as project architect for the Virginia Marine Science Museum in Virginia Beach and Nauticus in Norfolk.
Michel C. Ashe was named president of the Virginia Society, American Institute of Architects for 1996. Ashe is vice president and director of architecture for The TAF Group in Virginia Beach.
Michael P. Molzahn and Tom Retnauer were named associates at HBA Architecture & Interior Design in Virginia Beach. Molzahn is a project architect with more than 16 years of experience and has worked on the Amphitheater for the City of Virginia Beach. He was formerly with CMSS Architects in Virginia Beach. Retnauer has been with the company since December and is involved in the Princess Anne High School restoration. He was formerly a project architect with Glenn & Sadler in Norfolk.
ENGINEERING
Bryan J. Ross Jr., a Virginia certified nurseryman, has joined MSA as a planner. He will also provide landscape design services. Prior to this, he was a planner and landscape designer for Hassell & Folkes in Chesapeake.
Scott R. Davis and Paula W. Williams have also been added to the firm's engineering staff as computer aided design technicians at MSA. Davis was formerly a lab technician with the Hampton Roads Agricultural Experiment Station and Williams was formerly a detailer for Precision Millwork Inc. in Elizabeth City.
And, Deanne G. Lawton was named accounting manager. She was formerly with A&R Diversified Landscaping. MSA is the new name for the engineering firm recently known as Miller-Stephenson & Associates.
MANUFACTURING
Mark Devlin, general manager of Computerized Imaging Reference Systems Inc., a local manufacturer of medical imaging quality control devices, was promoted to vice president of the company.
BANKING
Rose Holloman was promoted to retail banking officer at Commerce Bank. She works in the corporate headquarters (the Witchduck office) and also serves as regional sales manager for the bank. Her former positions include account executive, branch supervisor and training coordinator.
Mary L. Curran was promoted to vice president at Central Fidelity National Bank. She currently serves as branch manager for the bank's Mid-City office in Portsmouth. She joined the bank in 1987 and previously served as assistant branch manager at the Churchland office in Portsmouth.
HOSPITALITY
Debra A. Spalding was named director of sales and marketing at The Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach. Prior to this, she was the director of sales and marketing for the Sheraton Oceanfront Hotel in Virginia Beach. She is affiliated with both the Virginia Beach Hotel/Motel Association and the Virginia Society of Association Executives.
ORGANIZATIONS
Dr. Wilford K. Gibson, a Norfolk orthopaedic surgeon, was inducted recently as a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He was one of 632 new fellows inducted. The academy has 17,000 members.
Dr. Francis J. Stenicka was elected president and Dr. Aleli G. Romero was elected vice president of the Tidewater Academy of Family Physicians.
LAW
Marina Liacouras Phillips has become of counsel with Kaufman & Canoles in Norfolk. She will specialize in environmental law. She was previously of counsel with Elf Atochem North America Inc. in Philadelphia and senior environmental counsel with Browning-Ferris Industries Inc. in Houston, Texas.
Maria S. Stefanis was named a principal with Hofheimer, Nusbaum, McPhaul & Samuels in Norfolk. She has been with the firm since 1991 and concentrates in federal income taxation, the Employee Retirement Insurance Security Act and corporate and business law. She formerly worked for Arthur Young (now Ernest & Young) as a certified public accountant.
REAL ESTATE
Owen Thornton was promoted to a vice president of The Prudential Decker Realty. He has been with the firm for three years and serves as the firm's comptroller. He previously practiced as a certified public accountant in Virginia Beach.
