JOHN N. GIBBS

John Norfleet Gibbs, 87, of the 1700 block of Pocaty Road, died Monday March 4, 1996, in Chesapeake.

Mr. Gibbs was born in Engelhard, N.C., and was the son of the late Syl Berge and Mary Louise Midgette Gibbs. He was a retired crane operator with IUOE (NU)147 and was a charter member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He was a member of Fairview Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Alethia Pauline Gibbs; his daughter, Mattie Susie Hastings of Chesapeake; two sisters, Mollie Gibbs of Edenton, N.C., and Rosa G. Toler of Wanchese, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Dr. Harold J. Addington and wife, Katherine, of Virginia Beach, Dinah Sue Hastings and Henry Clinton, both of Chesapeake.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday March 6, 1996, in the chapel of Oman Funeral Home. Ministers Gerald L. Stemm and Ted Clifton will officiate. Interment will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Fairview Church of Christ, 1112 Tatemstown Road, Chesapeake, 23325.
