Miletus Pendleton Jr.
PORTSMOUTH - Miletus ``Gayle'' Pendleton Jr., 82, of Greenbriar Road, died March 4, 1996.
He was director of Environmental Health for the City of Portsmouth and retired after 45 years of service. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he played football. He also played football for the Swanee Athletics, a Portsmouth semi-professional team in the 1930s.
A native of Portsmouth, he was predeceased by his wife, Ruth C. Pendleton, and a brother, James A. Pendleton.
He is survived by one daughter, Ruth Claire Murphy, and her husband, Bob, of Portsmouth; two sisters, Camille P. Harrell and Faye Robbins, both of Portsmouth; two brothers, J.J. Pendleton of Portsmouth and Willard Pendleton of Ashboro, N.C.; two grandchildren, Terri Rohrer, and husband, Earl, and James W. Patterson II; three great-grandchildren, Mandi Rohrer, Joseph Pendleton Rohrer and Tom Rohrer; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held today at 1 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Edward D. Strange. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
