Virginia Jones Lipscomb, 90, formerly of Charlottesville, died Tuesday, March 5, 1996, in at the Hermitage in Richmond.
She was born Aug. 12, 1905, in Norfolk, the daughter of the late Dr. George Wesley Jones and Nola N. Grant Jones. She was the widow of Dr. H. Bernard Lipscomb Jr. Mrs. Lipscomb was a graduate of the 1926 Class at Randolph-Macon Women's College. She was a past member of the Executive Board of Virginia Federated Music Clubs, and she founded church-related clubs during World War II for servicemen. She was a teacher in the Virginia Methodist Training School for youth workers. Mrs. Lipscomb had been an active member of over 35 years at the First United Methodist Church in Charlottesville where her husband had served as pastor. She also served the church as an assistant to the pastor for over 20 years until her retirement.
Mrs. Lipscomb is survived by her two children, H. Bernard Lipscomb II of New York and Mrs. Virginia Leigh Austin of Charlottesville; sister, Mrs. Ruth Jones Duvall of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Randall Lee Austin of Vinton, Va., and Sarah A. Dandridge of Charlottesville; five great-grandchildren, Gwynne Austin, Claire Austin, Harrison Austin, Austin Dandridge and Chandler Dandridge.
Her funeral service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m .at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Byron R. Wilkinson officiating. Interment will follow in Monticello Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Randolph-Macon Women's College, 2500 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg, Va. 24503, or First United Methodist Church, 101 E. Jefferson St., Charlottesville, Va. 22902. Hill and Wood Funeral Service, Charlottesville, is in charge of the arrangements.
