Fire swept a partially demolished Norfolk building in the 1900 block
of Lafayette Blvd. near Somme Avenue Tuesday afternoon. Norfolk
Battalion Chief Glenn Jones said the blaze may have started when
steel being cut by construction workers caused a spark. The fire was
reported at 3:15, and the building was fully engulfed when
firefighters arrived about five minutes later.
