Barbara Benton Lis has been arrested after being indicted by a federal grand jury last week in an embezzlement case.
Lis, 44, of the 1100 block of Folley Road, was released on a $50,000 bond, a federal official involved with the case said Tuesday.
Lis, a civilian, is a former chief accountant and bookkeeper-in-charge at the U.S. Coast Guard Exchange in Elizabeth City. She is charged with embezzling an undisclosed amount of money between March 1993 and November 1994.
A trial date has not been set.
